happy 4th of July

Today is usually filled with picnics, bbq’s, parades and family fun, and for a beautiful Saturday like today it is also filled with weddings! You may remember this photo from Marianne + Derek’s engagement session last summer, which was shot for a save the date for today’s wedding. I’m all for holiday weddings, since it usually makes it easier for people to attend; Matt and I tied the knot the day before Easter.

Our family tradition for Independence Day involves going to a big picnic with family friends up near Birch Run, MI. If you’ve heard of Birch Run it’s probably because of the outlet mall, which has the most amazing sales on the 4th of July weekend :] We haven’t been up to that picnic in a while, but I can’t wait to hear about how the volleyball games went – they are the highlight of the day.

Now you know what I’m up to today- I need to leave soon to head over to the wedding which is in the Finger Lake region of NY, on Keuka Lake specifically – but let me know what you did today to celebrate. Stories please, I can’t wait to hear them!

  • We enjoyed a fun picnic and beautiful fireworks last night at Cuba Lake. Hope the wedding goes well – it turned out to be a beautiful day for it!

Today’s agenda: Matt & I taught a college friend to ride a bike! Yes!! :D

  • Perfect weather, too much food, fabulous friends, and Matt Rogers suprised his family by coming to the Birch Run picnic. Volleyball, of course and Ryan is the star of that show. We shopped and in the Gap, Sarah and I remembered how many hours we would spend there with you, Mary before our picnic…trying on endless clothes. It’s still fun…hope to have you guys there soon. And….babykins….Julia was a HIT. The first of the next generation after 29 years of picnicking together.

  • i second the notion of lots of 4th of July fun today.
Buggy was great in her red, white and blue “miss independence” dress. and we all got to ride up to birch run in the new flex! ry found a new bright blue swimsuit and i got two shirts to match my purple shorts, plus a fun white and gray striped headband. and mom got a great animal print sheath w/some brown swirly dangling earrings. i ate lots of brownies and didn’t play volleyball…haa haa!
